Marlys Manole

Marlys Gwen Manole, 75, of Crookston, MN, died Thursday morning, January 23, 2014, at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston. She had been residing at the Villa since June 14, 2013. Marlys was born at Mentor, MN on March 27, 1938, one of three daughters of the union of Melvin and Grace (Camp) Trandem. She graduated from Mentor High School in 1956 and went on to attend Bemidji State College. On July 8, 1961 she was united in marriage to Harry Newman Manole at the Rodnes Lutheran Church, near Erskine, MN. Marlys and Harry made their home in Crookston where they raised their two daughters, Jerri and Jennifer. Her 26-year working career was spent as a library assistant for the Crookston Public Schools until retirement in 2000. Marlys was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and WELCA. Since the early 1960's the Manole family spent many enjoyable summers at their cabin on Union Lake, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Favorite pastimes included reading and cooking for her family and friends. Her potato salad and potato chip chicken were everyone's favorite dishes and the number one request at all gatherings. She was very proud of her family and their accomplishments and was delighted to be able to provide daycare to 2 of her grandchildren, Elise and Dokken, during their first years. Marlys was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed, and will be dearly missed by all whose hearts and lives she touched. Left to cherish Marlys's memory is Harry, her beloved husband of 53 years; their 2 daughters, Jerri (Craig) Moe of Eau Claire, WI, and Jennifer (Chad) Erdmann of Crookston, MN; 4 grandchildren: Tyler and Connor Moe, and Elise and Dokken Erdmann; 2 sisters, Yvonne (Gale) Christopherson of Maple Valley, WA and Ruth (Roger) Clifton of Lake City, FL; as well as, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Grace Trandem, and parents-in-law, Harry and Alice Manole Sr. May God bless Marlys Gwen Manole. The funeral service for Marlys Manole will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Greg Isaacson, officiating. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Monday from 5-7PM, with a 7PM prayer service, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the spring at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston.
