Marlys Schraeder

February 16, 1931 — October 7, 2017

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Marlys Jean Schraeder, at the age of 86, following a short yet courageous battle with cancer.  She passed away at her home in Crookston, MN on October 7, 2017 with loving family members by her side.

Marlys was born in Crookston to Margaret and John Paulson on February 16, 1931.  She went to high school at Crookston Central and graduated in 1949.  On January 14, 1950, she married John (Bud) Schraeder at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, MN.  They settled into their home in Crookston and later welcomed son, Ted, and daughters, Linda, Jennifer and Marcia.  Bud and Marlys enjoyed spending time at their Maple Lake home near Mentor, MN, as well as, their home in Bellaire, Florida, and enjoyed hosting many gatherings with friends and family throughout the years.  Marlys will be remembered for her sense of humor and her ability to tell an Ole and Lena joke like no other.

Marlys is preceded in death by her husband, Bud Schraeder, and brother, Curtis Riel.  Marlys is survived by her son, Ted Schraeder (Sue) of Gentilly, MN and grandchildren, Jason and Erin; daughter, Linda Dickson (Dennis) of Minnetonka, MN and grandchildren, Katie and Lauren; daughter, Jennifer Nelson (Todd) of Land O Lakes, FL and grandchildren, Jake and Derek; and daughter, Marcia Hoistad (Ron) of Edina, MN and grandchildren, Sarah and Tom; and beloved cousins, Opal Rich, Ardis Gullingsrud, and Lois Huffman.

A memorial service for Marlys will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston at 11:00 am, Friday, October 13, 2017, with The Rev. Elise Pokel, officiating.  Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Crookston, MN.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.  The family wishes to extend our gratitude to Jodi Jorgenson, Janna Fanfulik, and all the wonderful caregivers for their care and support in her final years.
