Michael Marschall

July 7, 1957 — March 4, 2015

Michael Dean Marschall, 57, of Fisher, MN , died peacefully late Wednesday evening, March 4, 2015, at the Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND, with family at his side. Michael was born at Minot, ND on July 7, 1957, one of four sons of the union of Elloide and JoAnn (Schmidt) Marschall. He grew up on the family's farm near Max, ND, was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church, rural Sawyer, ND, and graduated from Max High School in 1975. Michael enrolled at the Wahpeton (ND) State School Science, where he earned an associated degree in architectural drafting. He then began working as a draftsman for Ask, Inc in Minot. After a few years he became employed with another Minot firm, SSR Engineers. Michael was united in marriage to Andrea Jo Jung on May 29, 1982 at Hope Lutheran Church. Their marriage would be blessed by the births of daughters, Sarah and Emily. The family made their home in Minot until 1991 when they moved to Fisher, MN. Michael accepted a transfer to the Grand Forks office of SSR, which was known as Poykko Engineers. His specialty was electrical design and he worked on several large projects including the Ralph Engelstad Arena and Alerus Center. His company underwent another name change later and today is known as ONE. Michael had been with the company through all its growth and changes for the past twenty-two years to the present time. He suffered a serious stroke on December 17th and had been courageously fighting its effects for the past 77 days. Throughout this time he never lost his sense of humor, and continued to entertain family and friends alike with his famous home-grown one-liners. Michael and Andrea were devoted members of Fisher Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He was also quite active in the Fisher community and was a city councilman for several years. His greatest passion after his children was University of North Dakota hockey, and he still referred to them as the 'Sioux.' Michael was extremely proud to have worked on the Ralph and he and daughter, Emily, were season ticket holders who never missed a game until his illness. For Emily's college graduation from UND Michael had a Sioux themed cake made and was so excited about it he forgot to add "Congratulations." Michael and oldest daughter, Sarah loved to go shopping, stop in at garage sales, and never missed an art fest. They would disappear all day and come home with absolutely nothing...but they had a great time doing it. He would take his daughters to concerts, whether he wanted to or not, and had a great time with Sarah at a Timberwolf/Utah Jazz game in the cities awhile back. In short, there wasn't anything Michael wouldn't do for his girls. Michael and Andrea became grandparents recently, with Sarah giving birth to Evangeline Michelle last November 14th, and Emily giving birth to Harley Lynn on February 17th. He got to hold both of his granddaughters and he was indeed very proud. Michael will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his family and many friends. Grateful to have shared in his life is Andrea, his beloved wife of 32 years; and their two daughters and families: Sarah Marschall Friesner, her husband, Eric, and their daughter, Evangeline Michelle, of Thief River Falls, MN, and Emily Marschall Moulds, her husband, Casey, and their daughter Harley Lynn, of Fisher, MN. He also leaves his parents, Elloide and JoAnn Marschall of Max, ND; three brothers, Craig and wife, Brenda, of Windom, MN, Darell and wife, Beth, of Sandy, UT, and Todd and wife, Laura (Andrea's sister) of Lincoln, ND; his parents-in-law, Jim and Norma Jung of Browns Valley, MN; Andrea's siblings: Lynn (Joe) Hodny of Aberdeen, SD, Teresa (Jack) Appel of Browns Valley, Sue (Lee) Varpness of Montevideo, MN, Gina (Jeff) Thorne of Mina Lake, SD, and Laura (Todd) Marschall; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Shawn Thorne; and his grandparents, August and Rosella Marschall and Rudoph and Emma Schmidt. May God bless Michael's memory. A memorial service celebrating the life of Michael Dean Marschall will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 9th at the Fisher Lutheran Church in Fisher, MN with The Rev.
