Mildred Myerchin Overgaard, 95, of Crookston, MN, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, January 29, 2013, at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston with family at her bedside. Mildred was born in Grand Forks, ND on November 19, 1917 to Albert and Roseanne (Burton) Jeffrey. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and grew up on the family farm south of East Grand Forks, MN. She attended Timberline District 93 country school, and the Sacred Heart Grade School and High School in East Grand Forks. On November 5, 1935 Mildred was united in marriage to Walter F. Myerchin at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The couple farmed near Warren, MN, and together raised ten children. In 1955 they moved to Crookston Township where they farmed until Walter's passing on December 20, 1963. Mildred continued to make her home on the farm, and completed the work to earn her GED high school diploma. She then attended the AVTI in Thief River Falls, MN, where she took a 6 month business course specializing in bookkeeping. Following that, Mildred spent a year in 1967 working as a home health aide. She was united in marriage to Albert G. Overgaard on October 26, 1968 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, and they made their home on Mildred's farm. From 1968-70 she was employed in the bookkeeping department of the Crookston National Bank, and then from 1971, until her retirement in 1978, worked in the office of Proulx Refrigeration and Heating. In June of 2006, after having lived on her farm for 51 years, Mildred and Al became residents of the Summit Apartments at the Villa. Sadly, Albert passed away on August 4, 2008. Mildred was a devoted member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the Sacred Heart Circle, and Catholic Daughters. She also held a longtime membership in the Crookston-Parnell Homemakers Club. She enjoyed baking; spending time outdoors tending to her garden, plants, and flowers; and the companionship of their pet dog, Lady. Mildred loved family gatherings and looked forward to all the commotion that went along with having five generations come together for family celebrations. She will be lovingly remembered and very sadly missed. Mildred's family members include her 9 living children: Dennis (Delores) Myerchin of Crookston, MN, Audrey (Patrick) McNulty-Mangan of Westminster, CO, Dale Myerchin of Crookston, Joyce (Gary) Klava of Austin, TX, Theodore Myerchin of Alta Loma, CA, Mary Beth (Donald) Solheim of Crookston, Harvey (Carolyn) Myerchin of Crookston, Debra (Greg) Nelson of Grand Forks, ND, and Sheldon (Diana) Myerchin of Sauk Rapids, MN; a son-in-law, Sherman Hirsch of North Platte, NB; 29 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Norman Torkelson of Cumberland, WI; and a sister-in-law, Doris Jeffrey of Orion, IL. She also leaves 2 step-children, Earl (Faye) Overgaard and Marlys (Vern) Demarais, both of Crookston; a step-daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Overgaard of East Grand Forks, MN; many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
