Myles Drellack

August 7, 1923 — November 10, 2017

Myles Phillip Drellack, 94, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully Friday morning, November 10, 2017, in the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, with his loving family at his side. Myles was born in Fork Township of Marshall County, MN on August 7, 1923, the son of Charles and Esther (Vary) Drellack. He attended the Marshall County School, and later graduated from the Alvarado High School with the Class of 1941. After that Myles attended the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston. For the next several years he worked on the family farm in Marshall County. Myles was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Pahlen on October 26, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Euclid, MN. The couple made their home in Crookston and together raised their 3 children: Larry, Diane, and Sharon. During those early years Myles worked for Gruhot Motors, DeWard Motors, and Nelson Motors. In 1970 he began employment with the Otter Tail Power Company, which he said was the smartest move he ever made. In 1972 he transferred to the plant in Fergus Falls, MN, working there as a transportation maintenance mechanic. During his long and successful career with Otter Tail, Myles was honored many times by the Company’s Employee Suggestion Plan (ESP) committee for his ideas, suggestions, and concepts; all put into practice to make certain company protocols safer, more efficient, and just plain better. After his retirement from Otter Tail in 1989, he and Pat returned to Crookston. Sadly, Pat passed away on May 6, 1993.

Myles just had to keep busy, so for several years he operated a small engine repair shop in his garage, using his smarts and experience to fix cars, trucks, lawn mowers, garden tractors, snow-blowers, and many small appliances, making everything run like new. He also drove a truck during the potato harvest for several years. Myles was especially proud of his Indian motorcycle and spoke of it with great affection, while making sure it was always in tip-top shape. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory parish in Fergus Falls, while living there, and presently a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. Myles proudly held the distinction of being the oldest member of Crookston Eagles Aerie #873. He was adored by his family, and they couldn’t tell him enough just how much they appreciated his wisdom and guidance throughout their lives, and how much they loved him.

Myles leaves his 2 daughters, Diane (Joe) Ensrud of Grand Forks, ND and Sharon (Wayne) Abrahamson of Crookston, MN; 2 granddaughters, Lisa Ensrud of Fargo, ND and Tamye Stanley of West Jordan, UT; 2 step-grandchildren, Joe (Karen) Ensrud of Fargo and Janelle (Ron Norman) of Grand Forks; 2 great-grandsons, Grayson and Hayden Stanley of West Jordan; and 2 ‘furry pet’ grandchildren, Shadow and Baby (Sharon’s.) He is also survived by his brother, Elmer Drellack of Moorhead, MN; 2 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Drellack and Rena Pahlen of Crookston; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends, Alice Gruhot, and others. In addition to Pat, his beloved wife of 43 years, Myles was preceded in death by his son, Larry, who passed away on June 11, 1999; his parents, Charles and Esther; sister, Adele (Lawrence) Vedbraaten; brothers, Vincent (Elsie) Drellack and Rapheal (Ray) Drellack; and sister-in-law, Florence Drellack. May God richly bless the memory of Myles Phillip Drellack.

A Memorial Mass for Myles Drellack will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2017, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston with The Rev. Augie Gothman, presiding. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the funeral. Inurnment will take place in the Calvary Cemetery, Crookston.
