Nona Rose Kaiser, 81, of Crookston, MN, died at the Villa St. Vincent nursing home with her loving family by her side on Sunday, March 20, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Visitation will be Monday, March 28 at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 29 at 2 pm at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery. Nona (Nonie) was born on September 3, 1934, the daughter of Fred and Emily (Fiedler) Montreuil. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Crookston, MN. She graduated from Crookston Central High School in 1952. Nona was united in marriage to Duaine Kaiser on May 31, 1952. To their union were born five sons: Duane Jr., Mark, Timothy, Ronald, and Randy. Nonie wanted her "boys" to be happy, so much so that she worried herself sick at the holidays trying to make the celebrations special. She had an impeccable work ethic. For 42 years she served the residents of the Villa St. Vincent nursing home as a Certified Nursing Assistant and later as a Med Aide. In 1992, she was the recipient of the Minnesota Nursing Aide of the Year Award. Nonie had many simple pleasures that she enjoyed, including spending time with her sisters, gardening, and knitting-baby sweaters and slippers were her favorite. She loved canning the fruits of her labor, especially tomatoes, which were the main ingredient in her special chili. Nothing gave her more happiness than her family. Special times included traveling to faraway places with her husband in their retirement, watching her boys spending time together, and attending her grandchildren's many activities. Nonie's family will always think of her when they see a beautiful rose, feel the warm sun on their faces, or eat a delicious slice of apple pie. Nona was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carol Johnson; and brother, Ernest Montreuil. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Duaine; sons, Duane Jr. (Vivian) of Bemidji, MN; Mark (Denise) of Climax, MN; Tim of Crookston, MN; Ron (special friend, Marva Bakken) of Crookston, MN; and Randy (special friend, Jeanne Mazzarella) of Rosemount, MN; nine grandchildren, Taunya (Brian) Thoeny, Dustin (Sarah) Kaiser, Blake (Lois) Kaiser; Sara Rose Kaiser, Bethany (Josh) Moe, Sam (Kamil) Kaiser; Alex (special friend, Larissa) Kaiser, Ramona Kaiser; and Chelsea Kaiser; six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Chuck (Marilyn), Alan, and Ralph Montreuil, Mary Grove and Jean Lunos; loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and dear friends and special neighbors. The family would like to thank the staff at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care. Additionally, the family is so grateful to a very special granddaughter, Ramona, who provided Grandma weekly cares during the last year of her life, and daily in the last month of her life, when no one else could or had the courage to do so.
