Norma Swenson

Norma Elaine (Meyer) Swenson, age 86, of Crookston passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Norma was born on April 23, 1927, to George and Geneva (Sylvester) Seaton in Crookston, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Norma graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston in 1945. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, and served with the Ladies' Guild in many leadership roles including as its president for many years. She served for many years as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, the Altar Guild, and church choir. She was also an active member of the Top 20 Homemakers Club. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, and traveling, and very much enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her nine children: Jeanne (Richard) Gottschalk of Truman, MN, Bonnie (Leslie) Schulte of Loganville, WI, Steven (Sue) Meyer of Fisher, MN, Norman (Delilah) Meyer of Crookston, Joe (Connie) Meyer of Mankato, MN, Mark (Cindy) Meyer of Crookston, Sandra (Gerald) Landby of East Helena, MT, Laurie (Brian) Benoit of Crookston, and Wendy (Brent) Gullekson of Beltrami; thirty grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Bryan (Kim) Seaton; her sisters-in-law Harriet (Lloyd) Wagner and Dorothy Beiswinger; brother-in-law George Meyer; and, many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Geneva Seaton, and Theodor and Marie Meyer; her spouse, Henry Theodor Meyer, and spouse, Carl Oscar Swenson, and by one grandchild, Amy Dione Landby. Norma's Funeral Service will be at 2 PM, Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church in Crookston. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston from 5 to 7 PM, Saturday, December 21, 2013, with a prayer service at 7 PM, and also for one hour before the service at the church on Sunday. Interment will be at Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston. Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
