Norman Lewis

Norman Gilbert Lewis, age 48, of Crookston, MN, died early Thursday morning, July 11, 2013, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, with his family at his side. He had courageously battled mesothelioma for many months. Norman was born to George and Sharon (Helstad) Lewis on September 23, 1964 at Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital in North Carolina. His father was serving with the military and Norman's early years were spent in North Carolina and Tennessee. The family moved to Warroad, MN in 1973, and Norman graduated from Warroad High School in 1982. For a year he traveled with the Murphy Brothers Carnival Company working on set-up for county fairs. Norman then moved to Polk County and settled in the Crookston area. For many years he worked in construction, did factory work, and was a self-employed roofer. He enjoyed working on cars from an early age, and was always helping family and friends with their auto repair needs. Norman was united in marriage to Katherine Dupont at Crookston on October 11, 1997. His favorite pastimes included fishing and anything related to cars. His greatest joy was time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Norman is survived by his wife, Katherine of Crookston, MN; 3 step-children: Marshall Dupont of Marceline, MO, Angie (Tom) Olvera of Crookston, and Tara Dupont-Garza (Michael Garza) of Warren, MN; 5 step-grandchildren: Nicholas, Jason, Diamond, Catalina, and Michael Jr.; his parents, George Lewis of Roosevelt, MN and Sharon Lewis of Crookston; 3 siblings: Michael (Susan) Lewis of Minneapolis, MN, Lezlee Lewis of Crookston, and Matthew Lewis of Crookston; 2 nephews and a niece: Jordan, Mikayla, and Jakody; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Ada Kreuger, Albin and Harriet Helstad, and Norman and Ruth Lewis. May God bless Norman's memory.

Norman's life will be celebrated at a funeral service to be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston with Pastor Bill Humiston, officiating. Visitation will be for one prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
