Paul Allen Meyer, 42, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Hospital on Sunday, January 5, 2025. He was born in Crookston on January 8, 1982, to parents, Norman and Delilah (Levi) Meyer and was the second of three children.
Paul grew up going to the family farm in Crookston, where he developed a passion for farming and hard work early on in his life. He attended Crookston High School and graduated with the class of 2000 during which he also worked at the Villa St. Vincent as a dietary aide. While working at the Villa, he also worked for what is now SunOpta, where he continued working for twelve years after the Villa. From childhood to his final day, Paul had a big personality, he loved to talk and connect with others. He treasured his years working at the Villa, and all of the conversations he had with the residents and the smile he was able to put on their faces. Really, Paul could put a smile on anyone’s face, especially his family’s.
Family was another important, if not the most important, aspect of Paul’s life. Of course, every family has its troubles from time to time, but most of the years, the days, the hours, and the minutes, the Meyer family spent together, the time was filled with giggling. They have always had an inside joke or laugh to share between them. The family will miss the way Paul would ramble on during late night phone calls, even at times putting his sisters to sleep with the same stories he’d tell over and over. He loved to hunt, fish, and was a huge World War II history buff.
Paul never lost his passion for farming and continued to do that off and on throughout his life until deciding to farm full time. However, ever since he had been a kid, Paul wanted to study paleontology and would have followed through with it if he hadn’t been the compassionate man he was and opted to instead stay home and care for his grandmother who he had a close relationship with; Paul even learned most of his excellent cooking skills from her.
On December 3, 2024, Paul was admitted to Altru hospital in Grand Forks, ND where he learned from a CT scan that he in fact had cancer. By the time he was diagnosed with a type and a stage, it had spread throughout his body. Paul underwent radiation and was on the path to fight but sadly the cancer had spread too far throughout his body. On January 4th, 2025, Paul was admitted to Riverview Hospital where he spent his final hours with his family who were by his side the entire time. They have lost a son, a brother, an uncle, and many have lost a friend. His passing has deeply saddened his family, and they will miss him greatly.
Paul is survived by his mother, Delilah Meyer, of Crookston; Grandmother, Alma Levi; Sisters, Suzie (Dave) Marohl, of Farmington, MN, Anne (Justin) Schmalenberg, of Grand Forks, ND; 3 nieces and a nephew, Ella and Elliot Marohl, Leia and Giselle Schmalenberg; His Goddaughter, G Rose Gartner, Aunts and Uncles: Jeanne Gottschalk, Bonnie (Les) Schulte, Steve (Sue) Meyer, Joe (Connie) Meyer, Mark (Cindy) Meyer, Sandy (Gerald) Landby, Brian Benoit, and Wendy (Brent) Gullekson; Gary Levi, Cyndi (Bruce) Stein, Bruce (Kathy) Levi, and Jeff (Karen)Levi; close friends, Jeff Abeld, Mike Blow, and cousin Josh Meyer; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Meyer; Grandparents, Henry and Norma (Sylvester) Meyer Swenson; Grandfather, Ivan K.
