Peter Kurt Kuchan Jr., 60, of Crookston, MN passed away peacefully on Friday November 16, 2012 at St. Joseph's National Brain Aneurysm Center in St. Paul, MN with his loving family at his side.
Pete was born on September 6, 1952 in Crookston, MN, the son of Peter Sr. and Amy Kuchan. He attended school in Crookston and Red Lake Falls and enlisted in the United States Army in 1972 where he received his high school diploma. He continued with the National Guard dedicating his service to our country for 25 honorable years achieving the ranking of E06 in the 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry. Pete was married to his wife, Marilyn (Moe), on September 14, 1974 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Crookston, MN where they have resided since marriage. They were married for 38 amazing years. Pete and Marilyn truly were best friends. They loved their simple life and most enjoyed spending time with each other and with their family. Pete was employed with J. R. Simplot for 18 years and most recently worked for Polk County in building and grounds maintenance and boiler operations. Pete is well known for his caring personality and his wonderful humor. He had the ability to make people smile and laugh. He took great pride in his tomfoolery. He especially loved to attend his children and grandchildren's events. He was often heard yelling from the sidelines in support. He loved the outdoors. A day out on the water was the picture perfect day for him. Hunting was also a passion and he was able to hunt for 9 great days during his final weeks with us. Pete was an active member of the American Legion Post 20 where he volunteered in the color/honor guard. He also loved to play softball and played for almost 40 years. Regardless of his age, Pete gave his team all his effort and he usually had the dirtiest uniform on the team from diving for balls while playing shortstop.
