Raymond Kenneth Zammert, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. He born January 29,1938 to Henry and Suzie (Diedrich) Zammert, in Warren, Minnesota.
When Ray was three years old, his family moved from Warren to Euclid. They had a farm one and a half miles east of town. He attended school in Euclid for eight years, then the A.C. for four years. After graduation he worked on the family farm with his dad and brothers until he was drafted into the Army in 1961. He left home on September 21,1961 for basic training at Fort Benning, now Fort Moore, in Benning, Georgia. In June of 1962 Ray was shipped out overseas, serving in Germany until December of 1964, when he was discharged. He was awarded a Parachutist Badge, and was a Marksman Rifle-M-14. He then returned to the states in January of ’65, working at P&H as a heavy equipment operator in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for five years. After that he worked as a foreman in a cement factory for four years.
Raymond’s father passed away in December 1973, so he came back to Euclid, Minnesota to take over his family’s grocery business. During this time, he also worked part time at the Jiffy Fry in Crookston. In 1978 he sold the grocery store and started working at Hugo’s Piggly Wiggly in Crookston until he retired in 2000.
Ray loved to fish, hunt, and travel, even if the traveling was just down to Minneapolis for a T. Bone steak, he loved a good adventure. He was involved in his community, and became the American Legion Commander: Post 539, and was a member of the Noon-Day Lions and Eagles.
Raymond is survived by his sister, Kathleen Miller; nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Carole Zammert and Dolores Zammert; as well as many other relatives and friends. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Suzie (Dietrich) Zammert; siblings Robert Zammert, Charles Zammert, and Rosemary Bongean; and many beloved others.
