Richard Maygra, 69, of Crookston MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025. After a yearlong battle with cancer, he was called to his eternal home, with his family by his side, and his beloved dog Max who was his constant companion.
Richard was born on January 27th, 1955, to his loving parents Maurice and Lucille Maygra and raised on the family farm with his older sister Charlene in Polk County, Kertsonville Township. Richard learned the value of hard work, integrity, a love for animals, and had an amazing work ethic. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Church in Gentilly, MN where he was a lifelong member.
Richard graduated from Crookston Central High School in 1973 and completed two years of college at University of MN Crookston. He worked at American Crystal Sugar in Crookston MN from 1975-1993 and held many positions – welder, mechanic, instrument man, electronic control technician and maintenance supervisor. He worked at Construction Engineers in Grand Forks, ND from 1994-1996, EAPC Architects Engineers in Fargo, ND from 1996-2001 and VEI Global Engineering in Fargo, ND as a Construction Manager from 2001 until his retirement in 2020.
Richard was united in marriage to Pamela Maygra on May 20th, 1983, and together they raised their three children Jacob, Rachel and Brandon on their farm. They raised and boarded horses, beef cattle, and many other animals. Richard and Pam especially loved horseback riding and spent many happy years hitting the trails with friends.
Richard enjoyed many hobbies over the years and was a man of many talents. In his younger years he was a talented trumpet player and a snow mobile enthusiast. His first car was a 1974 Pontiac GTO which is still in the family, and he loved to drive his 1982 Harley Davidson to work and on many road trips. Richard was often welding, fixing, and tinkering in his shop. But most of all he enjoyed rides around the countryside with Max.
He was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his sister Charlene (Scott) McAllen of Detroit Lakes, MN. Pamela Maygra, wife of 35 years, Crookston, MN. His children Jake Maygra of Beltrami MN, Rachel (Chris) Massmann of Ramsey MN, Brandon and Deonne Maygra of Crookston MN, and Mother-In-Law Carol Radi of Crookston MN.
He was loved and will be missed by his 15 grandchildren: Caleb, Mandy, Josalynn, Justin, Gregory, Alexandria, Savannah, Noel, Cavan, Aliyah, Ethan, Theodore, Jack, Lillian, Vylet.
