Robert Tabatt

October 5, 1937 — December 13, 2012

Robert Ray Tabatt, age 75, and a longtime Crookston, MN resident, died at his home early Thursday morning, December 13, 2012, with his loving family at his side. Bob, as he best known, was born at Moorhead, MN on October 5, 1937, and was the son of Louis and Corrine (Ryan) Tabatt. He grew up in the Fargo-Moorhead area and graduated from Moorhead State High School. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955, and served one year of his tour of duty in Saudi Arabia and three years stateside. He was honorably discharged in 1959 and returned home, where he began working at the Mattson Truck Stop in Glyndon, MN. Bob was later employed at Goodyear & OK Tire Store in Fargo. On October 28, 1961 he was united in marriage to Shirley Doris Schock in Fargo. Bob and Shirley moved to Crookston in 1964 and he managed the Heldstab Tire Company. He later worked as a carpenter, and was then employed at the McKinnon Brewery. Toward the end of Bob's working career he drove a bus for Head Start, and then a school bus for the Fisher public schools before retiring three years ago. Bob was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and also held membership in Crookston's Nels T. Wold American Legion Post #20. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and in his younger days, golfing with friends. His greatest joy was the summers spent with his family at Pinehurst Resort on Twin Lakes, and Fontanel Resort on Blackduck Lake. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who touched the hearts of many and will be dearly missed by all. Loving family members include his wife of 51 years, Shirley; a son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters: Tim and Holly Tabatt, Ashley and Taylor, all of Grand Forks, ND; a son-in-law, Paul Lautt of Grand Forks; three brothers, Carroll Tabatt of Grand Rapids, MN, Keith Tabatt of Vancouver, W A, and Jim (Diane) Tabatt of Colfax, CA; a sister, Joyce (Mike) Varela of Bakersfield, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Sadly, Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Lautt, who died on November 2nd, 2011; his parents, Louis and Corinne; and a brother, Richard, who died as a young boy. May God bless the memory of Bob Tabatt.
