Robert Winand

Robert Louis Winand, age 78, Crookston, MN, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home in Crookston, surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born on November 26, 1934 in Manheim Township, York County, Pennsylvania, son of Walter and Pauline (Fridinger) Winand. He grew up and attended rural schools in Pennsylvania and entered the US Army, serving from 1958-1959 and 1961-1963 in Texas and Greenland. He was united in marriage with Farrell Bolstad on March 4, 1961 in Temple, Texas. They made their home in Tuckerton, NJ, Alexandria, VA, Duluth, MN, Gonvick , MN and Trail, MN, before moving to Crookston in 1970. He had worked as a plumber with Associated Plumbing and Heating in Crookston for many years, retiring in 1996. His most recent job was custodian at the rest stop, Fisher's Landing, where he had been employed for the last 10 years. His wife, Farrell, died on September 19, 1999.

Robert loved traveling to various Heritage Festivals in the region, including Cajun Fest at Walker, MN, he loved to take his grandkids to Rib Fest at Cass Lake, MN, and taking in car shows in the area. He had a 1963 Ford Pickup which he enjoyed working on and restoring. He was an avid reader and loved old movies, especially British movies and sitcoms. He was a volunteer at the Rollag Steam Thresher's Reunion held annually over Labor Day weekend. He and his son, Don, used to deer hunt together. Robert also enjoyed meeting his "coffee buddies" during the week.

He is survived by his children: Judi (Steve) Krueger of Crookston, Glynnis Winand of Fargo, and Don (Tracy) Winand of Brooks; twelve grandchildren: Nicole (Brent) Massmann, Kelly (Rene) Lucio, Paula Krueger, Joe Krueger, Arthur Rocha, Sally Sirjord, Solveig Sirjord, Colton, Carter and Quinn Winand, Bryce Hyland and Tyler Sandahl; eight great grandchildren: Anna, Luke and Leah Massmann, Shaina Stromquist, Amelia Aguilar, Julie Lucio, Lydia Lucio and Courtney Winand; a brother: Richard (¬¬¬Joan) Winand of Buchanan VA; special niece/caregiver: Elaine Jenson; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Pauline; a sister: Patricia Thomas; his wife: Farrell; and two grandchildren: Tomas and Tavish Sirjord. The memorial service for Robert Winand will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, March 20, 2013 with a prayer service at 7 PM, and also on Thursday for one hour before services at the funeral home.
