Ronald Parkin

November 19, 1937 — December 2, 2013

Ronald Edward Parkin, 76, of Fisher, MN, died peacefully Monday evening, December 2, 2013, in the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND with members of his family by his side. Ron was born in Crookston, MN on November 19, 1937 to Harold and Grace (Yuergens) Parkin. He grew up in the Angus-Warren, MN area. Ron attended Warren High School and graduated in 1955. On February 28, 1956 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served stateside until his last year of service when he was assigned duty as a General's attaché aboard the USS Toledo and USS Roanoke where he toured the world. He was honorably discharged on February 27, 1958 with the rank of Corporal. Ron continued to serve with the 9th Marine Corps Reserve until February of 1962. Ron was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He was united in marriage to Beverly Stroot at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Euclid, MN on February 28, 1959. Their marriage was blessed by the births of 4 children: Cindy, Timothy, Lynette, and Brian. Ron was a man of many talents and throughout his life he worked as a plasterer and farmer, finding his true passion while working in sales. He put forth his best efforts in everything he did and was very proud of his achievements. Ron was a faithful member of St. Francis's Catholic Church in Fisher. He also held membership in Fisher's Theodore Stalemo American Legion Post #242. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather; and was especially proud to have had his son, Brian, and grandson, Ben, follow in his footsteps, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. Whether family or friend, all who knew Ron were grateful to have been a part of his life, and he will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed. Ron is survived by his loving wife and best-friend of 54 years, Beverly; three children: Cindy (Marlin) Ingebretson of Mayville, ND, Lynette (Wade) Borth of Fargo, ND, and Brian Parkin of Fisher, MN; 5 grandchildren: Erica (Brandon) Speidel, Ben (Cherity) Lunak, Ethan Parkin, McKenna Parkin, and Josh Borth; and 3 great-grandchildren: Ella and Lauren Speidel and Adam Lunak. He also leaves 3 sisters: Janice Nordenstrom of DeForest, WI , Annette (Warren) Strandell of East Grand Fork, MN, and Carol (Ronald) Loeslie of Warren, MN ; sisters-in-law, Gloria Parkin of Land O Lakes, FL, Joan Parkin of Palm Desert, CA, and brother-in-law Gene Johnston of Angus, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Very sadly, Ron is preceded in death by his son, Timothy John, who died just a few weeks ago on November 2nd; his parents, Harold and Grace; brothers, Dale and Orville; and a sister, Jean Johnston. May God richly bless the memory of Ronald Edward Parkin.
