Ronald M. Solheim, known as Ron, age 80, Crookston, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the Villa St. Vincent with his loving family at his side. Ron was born on March 1, 1934 in Crookston, MN, son of Julius and Ida (Skretvedt) Solheim. He attended country school. He worked for area farmers and Elk River Concrete in Crookston from 1953 to 1955, before joining the army. He earned his GED while serving in the US Army. Following his time in the army, he returned to Elk River Concrete, where he worked from 1958 to 1968. He was united in marriage with Mary Jane Urness on February 21, 1959 at the Hafslo Lutheran Church, rural Crookston. They lived at rural Crookston until moving into Crookston in October of 1977. He attended the Weber Data Processing School in Fargo in 1968, after which he worked for Minnekota Power in Grand Forks, ND as a computer operator and later became the operations supervisor, working there for twenty-five years, retiring in 1994. Following retirement, he and Mary enjoyed traveling. He and Mary were long time members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Ron is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Solheim of Crookston; six children: Cindy (Mark) Meyer of Crookston, Wanda (Tom) Proulx of Crookston, Rick Solheim of Crookston, Mike (Brenda) Solheim of Bemidji, Bruce (Stacey) Solheim of Eagan and Kim (Chris) McMenamy of Marengo, IL; fourteen grandchildren: Carisa (Scott) Wright, Brett Meyer, Jennifer (Joseph) DelVecchio, Emily Meyer, Shannon Ringstad, Nicole (Kris) Nelson, Heather (Ryan) Palm, Shane Proulx, Tanner & Amber Solheim, Kaleigh & Allie Solheim, and Maisie & Jack McMenamy; eight great-grandchildren: Emma & Ashton Wright, Katelyn & Kamryn Ringstad, Ryker, Rylee & Reid Nelson and Brodie Meyer; three brothers: Harvey (Janet) Solheim of Crookston, Eugene (Carol) Solheim of Crookston, Don (Mary Beth) Solheim of Crookston; a sister-in-law: Marilyn Solheim of Crookston; and a brother-in-law: Ronald Urness of West Fargo. Ron was preceded in death by his parents: Julius and Ida Solheim; and infant brother, who died in 1935; a brother: Ardel, who died in 1973 and a sister-in-law: Ila Urness. Ron's funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Crookston, with Rev. Jo Gast and Rev. Greg Isaacson, officiating. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston from 5 to 7 PM, Friday, with a prayer service at 7 PM and also with visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the Hafslo Cemetery, rural Crookston in the spring. Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston is assisting with the arrangements.
