Roseanne Giannonatti Jackson, 91, of Mentor, MN, died Tuesday evening, May 29, 2012, at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston, MN, with many of her family at her bedside. Roseanne was born on June 22, 1920 at Ludlow, SD, and was the daughter of the late Andrew and Margaret Claire (Welch) Giannonatti. She was raised in Ludlow and attended Buffalo High School in nearby Buffalo, SD, graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1938. She went on to receive her diploma as a Registered Nurse in 1943 from the St. John's Hospital Training School for Nursing at Rapid City, SD, specializing in surgical and obstetrical nursing. She then began working at St. John's MacNamara Hospital in Rapid City, first in the surgery department, and later in obstetrics. She married James Forsyth at Rapid City in the 1940's. He passed away in the early 1950's. On August 24, 1957 Roseanne was united in marriage to Ralph Jackson at Rapid City. In 1959 she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, summa cum laude, from South Dakota State College. Roseanne and Ralph later moved to Boulder, CO, where she earned a Master of Science Degree, with honors, from Colorado State University. After moving to Everett, WA in the early 1970's Roseanne became an instructor in maternity and obstetrical nursing at Everett Community College. She continued in that position until retirement in 1985. Ralph passed away in 1984. Roseanne was a devout member of the Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Everett, and spent years giving of her talents to the church, as well as, volunteering on behalf of the Providence Hospital in Everett at the Everett Mall, taking blood pressures and offering kindness and attention to anyone in need. She also found time to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to two foreign students she befriended. For a good part of her life, Roseanne enjoyed worldwide travel; some trips made with friends, and others to spend time with her step-daughter, Donna Jackson, a Major in the Salvation Army. Her travels took her to Ireland, Hong Kong, Japan, China, Kenya in Africa, several trips to Rome, Italy and the Vatican, Norway, Russia, London and Greece. Though she had no children of her own, Roseanne was a devoted Aunt and Godmother to the 6 children of her brother, Forrest Giannonatti, and his wife, Pat, and was present at all of their births. They all fondly knew her as "Aunt Bub." In Everett she cared frequently for her step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, the family of her late step-daughter, Wanda Jackson Clark. In 1998 she moved to Mentor, MN to be near her family, and then in 2007 became a resident of the Villa St. Vincent. Roseanne found great joy in helping family and friends, and she will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Roseanne leaves her step-daughter, Donna Jackson of Orange, CA; 4 step-grandchildren: Kevin Clark (Yvonne ), Julie Clark Collver (Dan) Peggy Clark Pankow ( Craig), and Roseanne Clark Deutsch (Michael), all of Everett, WA; and 4 step-great-grandchildren: Alan, Rachel, Brittney, and Heather. She is also survived by her brother, Forrest Giannonatti and his wife, Pat, of Mentor, MN; a step-brother, William Gartley and his wife, Sue, of Stevensville, MI; a step-brother-in-law, Joe Kane of Spearfish, SD; several nieces and nephews: Roxann Giannonatti Mitchell (Paul) of Hackettstown, NJ, Reathel Giannonatti, Terrill Giannonatti Bradford (Tom), Forrest Sion Giannonatti Jr. (Sue), and Kathy Giannonatti (wife of the late Kirk Giannonatti), all of Mentor, and Lin Giannonatti (Laurie) of Roseau, MN; and 16 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Margaret Giannonatti; 2 stepchildren, Wanda Jackson Clark and Robert Jackson; sister, Zeta Giannonatti; step-sister, Alice Gartley Kane; and nephew, Kirk Giannonatti. May God bless and keep the memory of Roseanne Jackson.
