Shirley Ann Carlson, 59, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully, Monday afternoon, March 19, 2012 at the RiverView Hospital in Crookston . Shirley was born on October 2, 1952, in Crookston, to Woodrow "Woody" and Stella "Topsy" Carlson. She grew up in Crookston and was a 1972 graduate of Central High School.
Shirley was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She spent her time listening to recordings by her favorite singer, Elvis Presley, and even met him once at The Shriner's Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. In 1993, she was able to take a trip to Graceland and fulfill her dream of seeing where he was raised. Shirley also enjoyed painting, relaxing in the sun with her cat, Milo, cooking, visiting Grand Forks with Chester and Ismael, and babysitting her nieces and nephews.
Shirley will be greatly missed by her siblings: David Carlson of Crookston, Dennis (Jo) Carlson of Ponder, TX, Donna (Larry) Middleton of Desoto, MO, Carol (John) Abeld of Crookston; and her aunt, Melbe Alexander of Yelm, WA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews: including her special niece, Dawn (Ruben) Resendiz of Crookston and children, Kennedy and Karly Resendiz, Tracy (Bill) Amiot of Thief River Falls, and children Christopher and Ashley Amiot, Lisa (Wayne) Thorson of Climax, MN, and children Gabby and Garrett Thorson, Tammy (Billy) Dickerson of Virginia Beach, VA and children Katie Ann, Samantha, Robert, and Laney Dickerson, Ricky (Tara) Abeld of Fisher, MN and children Michael, Justin, Marissa, Brady, and Stella Abeld, Johnny (Rebekha) Abeld of Crookston and children, Jonathan, Ryan, Thomas, and Alisson Abeld, Jeffrey (fiancé Taylor) Abeld of Crookston, Dennis Carlson Jr. of Ponder, TX, Matthew (Laura) Middleton of O'Fallon, IL and children, Jane and Kathryn Middleton, and Joseph Middleton of Desoto, MO. The family would especially like to thank the staff and residents at R.E.M. North Star for the care and love shown to Shirley the past three years, especially Chester and Ismael for their special outings to the movies and Olive Garden. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; Woodrow and Stella Carlson, and several aunts and uncles.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Shirley Carlson will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Greg Isaacson, officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
