Timothy Ek

Timothy John Ek, 46, of Crookston, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on September 16, 2014. Timothy was born in Mahnomen, Minnesota, on February 15, 1968 to Ronald and Linda (Orre) Ek. Growing up in Gary, Minnesota, Tim was baptized at Gary Lutheran Church. As a child, he attended Gary Elementary, and went on to graduate from Gary High School. Tim was a proud "Gary Bulldog" as he played football throughout his high school career and was named All-Conference his senior year. Some of Tim's very favorite times as a young man included putting together backyard football games with his brothers, cousins and his uncle Mark. Tim also enjoyed fishing with his family and cherished the trip to Canada with his Father and Uncles Roger and Robert where they did very well. After high school, Tim went with his Uncles Robert and Roger to Arizona to work in construction, where he really enjoyed that kind of work as well as spending time with his Uncles in the warm Arizona weather. When he moved back to Minnesota, Tim worked as a production worker at Ada Produce, and went on to also do the same at Dee Incorporated. Tim eventually settled in Crookston, where he worked at The Café. Tim enjoyed watching sports, especially football and hockey. However, nothing could beat having a cookout with his family, whom he loved dearly. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Tim knew that he was an easygoing and loved a good laugh, which shone through in his daily interaction with family, friends, coworkers, and members of his community. Tim is preceded in death by his grandparents, Orville and Winona Ek, and John Orre; and Uncle Roger Ek. Tim is survived by his parents, Ronald and Linda Ek of McIntosh, Minnesota; siblings Jamie Ek of Moorhead, Minnesota, Amber Olson (Dean) of Fertile, Minnesota, Justin Ek of Twin Valley, Minnesota, Kevin Ek (Tanya) of McIntosh, and Sheldon Ek of McIntosh; children Julie, Jay, and Erik; Grandma Violet Orre; nieces and nephews Alison Olson, Hunter Olson, Caitlynn Ek, Braden Anderson, Isabella Ek, and Samuel Ek; aunts and uncles James Orre, Jerry Orre (Lisa), Mark Orre, Carolyn Stundahl (Wayne), Kathy Sorenson (Gary), Vicki Gunufson (James), Randi Munson (Trafton), Robert Ek, Rosalie Ek, Renee Goodin, and Roxanne Scully (Dale); as well as many loving cousins. A funeral service and celebration of Tim's life will take place on Friday, September 19 at 11 a.m., at the Gary Lutheran Church in Gary, Minnesota, with Pastor Scott Morey Officiating. A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place immediately following the funeral service at Gary Lutheran Cemetery. Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.
