Vickie Lynn Stortroen, a beloved wife, mother, sister, nana and friend, went home to meet her Lord and Saviour on August 19, 2021 at age 66 after a courageous battle with ALS.
Vickie, of rural Climax, MN, was born in Thief River Falls, MN on September 22, 1954, the 2nd of 4 children from the union of Ray and Muriel (Hoaas) Ranum. As a young child she moved with her family to East Grand Forks, MN and a few years later moved to Crookston, MN where she entered the 3rd grade at Carmen School. Vickie graduated from Central High School in 1972. Her love for creating beautiful things began at a young age sewing incredible clothes throughout her life, including her very own wedding dress. She met the love of her life, Steven Stortroen and was married November 27, 1976 at Bible Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN. The couple made a beautiful life for themselves in Vineland Township, near Climax, MN. Together, they raised three daughters in a loving Christian home. In 2000 they became members of the Bible Baptist Church in Crookston. Over the years, Vickie contributed to her community and church families serving in various positions from local schools, post office, library, Sunday School teacher, and daycare provider for many precious children. Wherever life took her, the light of Jesus shined brightly through her to those around her. Vickie was continually sewing and baking her love into everything she did. Her love of her Norwegian heritage was shared and passed down to her family. She was blessed with eleven grandchildren who adored her and the special nana blankets she lovingly quilted for them. Vickie will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone she has touched forever and ever.
Vickie leaves behind her beloved husband Steve of 44 years. She is also survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Rebekah and husband, Grant R. Seeger, M.D. of Grand Forks, ND, Bridget and husband, Ryan Hauge of Cold Spring, MN, and Sarah and husband, Peter Onstad of South Haven, MN; and 11 grandchildren: Haakon, Marit, Thor, Synneva, Aksel, and Freya Seeger, Scarlett, Anders, and Violette Hauge, and Lilly and Gunnar Onstad. She is also survived by her 3 siblings: Calien Christensen and husband, Wes of Kingston, TN, Mike Ranum and wife, Mary, of Circle Pines, MN, and Robert Ranum and wife, Laura of Gainesville, FL; aunts and uncles: Ferrl (Ann) Ranum of Thief River Falls, MN, Melvin (Jane) Hoaas of Dent, MN, and Joyce Ranum of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; from Steve’s family: Gail Satermo of Phoenix, AZ, Dallas Stortroen of Crookston, MN, and Randy Stortroen of Climax, MN; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Muriel Ranum; and parents-in-law, Morris and Georgia Stortroen.
