Walter Robert Tronson, of Crookston, MN, passed away December 1, 2011 at the Villa St. Vincent after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. Walt was born August 20, 1923 in Coon Rapids, MN to Toney Thor and Nellie Sophie (Anderson) Tronson. As a young man he served as part of the Black Cat Squadron of the Navy Air Force based at Subic Bay Philippines during World War II. After his military service he worked as a heavy equipment operator on many construction projects including the new Interstate freeway system and Thule Air Force Base in Greenland. One of the first of these jobs took him to Crookston where he met his future wife, Isabel M. Gramer. They celebrated their 64th year of marriage August 24, 2011. Throughout his life, Walt's main focus was his family which included his wife, Isabel, four daughters Jennifer, Janna (deceased), Jackie and Joan; his son-in-law, Philip Bertils; Grandchildren Trevor (Stacy) Hegranes, Chenoa Buck, Melinda (Peter) Eberle, Cole (Kelli) Bertils; Bianca (Bill) Krenzel, Marco Porraz and Ava Lopez; and Great-grandchildren Tearle, Jared, Nicholas, Pyper and Dylan Buck; Mahlah and Laura Eberle; Maya Morgan-D'Amato and Peyton Krenzel. Walt's other main focus was creating a home for his family. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could make miracles with duct tape. He retired from American Crystal Sugar but kept his ties to the heavy equipment through his connection to Bertils Gravel and Excavation. He was a man of big hands and a big heart and will be greatly missed.
